Christ the Redeemer
In the top of the mountain is installed Christ the redeemer, one of the most wanted touristic sides of Rio de Janeiro. Biggest and most famous scripture Art Déco of the world, the Christ statue started to be planned in 1921 and it was developed by the engineer Heitor da Silva Costa over 5 years of job, from 1926 to 1931, the opening year of the monument. It’s located at Parque Nacional da Tijuca, 710 meter above the sea level, where anybody can appreciate one of the most beautiful views of the city. Over all 220 steps that lead to the famous statue feet, it was elected one of the Seven Wonders of the World made by formal voting in 2007 by the Swiss Institution New 7 Wonders Foundation. The monument is accessible by train, van or car. To get into the monument, there’s a nice ride by train that, during 20 minutes, it crosses Mata Atlântica until Corcovado’s top. Making an easy access to the visitants, three panoramic elevators and four escalators were built. The visual is amazing; it makes an unmissable programme for those that visit the city. How to get there By train: Available tickets to buy through the website tremdocorcovado.com.br; in the information kiosks of Riotur at downtown (Candelária street, 6) and at Copacabana beach (Atlântica Avenue, in front of Hilário Gouveia street); on the Corcovado train kiosk at Rio Sul shopping (Lauro Muller street – Botafogo) and on the official booking office in Cosme Velho station. And in 7 post office agencies – Santos Dumont airport (from Monday to Friday, starting at 9 am to 5 pm); Tom Jobim airport (from Monday to Friday, starting at 8 am to 8 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays, starting at 8 am to 3:30pm); Barra shopping (Américas street, 4.666; store 106, from Monday to Friday, starting at 9 am to 5 pm); Copacabana (Nossa Senhora de Copacabana avenue 540, from Monday to Friday, starting at 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays, starting at 9 am to 1 pm); AC JK (Visconde do Itaboraí street 20/ groundfloor – Downtown, from Mondays to Sundays, starting at 12 pm to 7 pm); and Largo do Machado 35, from Monday to Friday, starting at 9 am to 1 pm). It is recommended to buy the ticket in advance. The Largo do Machado and Lido Square points vans continue as well as the purchase option on the Internet. By car: by way of Cosme Velho by Ladeira dos Guararapes, followed by Ladeira íngreme. On the Right, get in the Conselheiro Lampreia street until the intersection with the indicative plate “Corcovado-Mirante”. Turn the left, at Paineiras road, and forward a new plate will indicate “Paineiras-Corcovado”. The ride cars must follow only until the Paineiras, where there’s a parking. From there, the visitants follow the van accredited until the monument.
